Giving pupils access to a full time education is a good thing but to really benefit from the opportunity so much more is required. Amongst others, one key element is a pupil’s ability to read. It’s been a rollercoaster of couple of months in which the fragile nature of life has been brought to the fore. Listening to Andy Cope (@beingbrilliant) at the beginning of September, his thought provoking “from the moment we are born we have on average 4000 weeks of life” has resonated strongly. Along with many other school leaders at least part of September is spent making sure the school’s website is compliant with the School Information Regulations (2012). Endless reports and policies some statutory but others written to lay at the altar of school accountability and bureaucracy.
