Workload and the Blind Man

The Workload Reports published over the Easter weekend was not so much a missed opportunity as one that never existed.  There is a certain amount of confirmation bias in making this statement as back in November 2015 I blogged Why Workload Working Groups Won’t WorkThe blind man of the title is each one of us; we all have a responsibility to act within our sphere of influence.  The workload challenge is likely to be one of the defining issues of the next few years; it is looking like one of many. Good But Stuck and Increasingly Fragile #WhitePaper

Professor Tim Oates described the English Education System as “Good but stuck”, I’d now suggest it is “Good but stuck and increasingly fragile.”  Reacting to a pretty full White Paper, Educational Excellence Everywhere (who could possibly disagree), on day one has certain down sides; on reflection some ideas which appear rather poor improve with age and vice versa. More Meetings, Less Impact – How About You?

“Myself and Stephen feel like we are joined at the hip, we keep attending meetings so the Heads can get on with their jobs of running the schools.”  The thought had crossed my mind more than once over the past eighteen months.  It’s getting a bit too much.  At one meeting I made myself really popular by stating that the meeting had been a rather poor one as we hadn’t had any impact on pupils’ outcomes.  It didn’t help that I was the last person to express my thoughts; everyone else had thought it was a really useful meeting.
